Spirituality, Money, and You: A Dynamic Change for Heart-Centered Businesses
The subject of spirituality and money is more common today than it has ever been in the past. Today, we are in the midst of a business revolution in which an ever-growing number of entrepreneurs, business owners, and professionals are taking a stand to becoming more conscious and heart-based in their work as well as being extraordinarily profitable.
They are changing their values to include the importance of providing a work environment that honors people as vital and dynamic assets. People are seen as human beings with needs, wants, and desires, not just things to be used and to be motivated with fear tactics for the sake of business and the bottom line, revenue, and cash flow.
What I’m talking about is a subject that is as deep as it is wide. I’d like to narrow this down to one main problem, a huge problem, seeing people as things, not as people, including yourself.
Now, you might be thinking, what exactly does this look like and what does it have to do with business and cash flow? Well, plenty, and here’s how. Think about a time when you were not achieving the results that you intended or wanted. Money wasn’t flowing for you, clients weren’t calling, houses weren’t selling, etc. What happened inside of you?
Well, let me give you a little taste of what happens to someone I know who is very close to me. A little booming voice inside her head provokes her with these daunting reminders:
“You will never get this right”
“You aren’t good enough to expect so much”
“Who do you think you are to want so much”
“Your habit of hiding out will never change”
“If you don’t hurry up and do something, you’ll lose everything”
“You shouldn’t let fear stop you so much”
“Just get over it and move on”
Then, the ugly dark emotions of fear, panic, doubt, embarrassment, and guilt take over. By now, this person who is very close to me has fallen into despair, doom and gloom, or occasionally, anger kicks in and produces tiny spurts of action. All of this happens faster than a speeding bullet.
Of course, the “who” in this scenario is unfortunately me. I’m sharing this with you because if this happens to you, and it most likely has, particularly if you are experiencing set backs or unwelcome changes, you must know that you are not alone. I’ve introduced you to my inner bully. Do you have one too? Actually, I’ve yet to meet anyone for whom this was not the case.
Your inner bully treats you as a “thing”, a pawn on a chess board that can be moved around tirelessly. It cares not that you are tired, frustrated, and feel very alone. It just wants to provoke you into doing something and it uses fear tactics to do just that. You, as a person, are nothing. You are just a pawn in this game of life and your only mission, as far as your inner bully is concerned, is to produce results at any cost. Ouch!!!!
So, how do you diminish your inner bully’s negative impact on you which forces you into your fight, flight, or freeze mode? It is simple, however, it requires you to wake up and see that the bully’s attacking and belittling words are mean and provoking. Most of all, to see your inner bully as a survival habit which occurs automatically. You must consider the source. Your bully is never the Truth, it’s a habit that resorts to fear and anger to motivate you; it’s your conditioning that taps into your primordial instincts of basic survival.
You must first decide that you will only be treated as the human being that you are, not a thing. This decision will have an incredible impact in your entire life. And just remember, things treat others like things. Ouch again! Being treated or treating others like things, not people, does not align with your higher values. At the end of the day, you will feel regret and remorse for treating yourself and others as if they were things, not people.
How might you be pushing and forcing yourself to work hard and to tirelessly chase after business for the sake of getting more money? This is not the way that we, powerful co-creators and creative human beings, were designed to be successful, attract more business, more money, more freedom, more love, and to have more joy in our lives.
Please take my “humanity challenge” and see yourself and others as the incredible human beings that we all are, particularly in challenging times. How will this shift make a positive difference in your life and in the lives of those that you truly do care about?
